novel debut

I am over the moon to announce that I've completed my first novel!

On Sullivan's Island, South Carolina, in the warmth of a late August afternoon, a woman regresses to the girl she once was and relays the story of a life she has kept hidden for over forty years.

During the 1970s, when love feels as free as her spirit, Sadie McCawlen takes a path that leads to tragedy-relying on her sister to help sort through the broken pieces.

But when a family secret offers a way to heal and takes her to the Intracoastal Waterway near Charleston, Sadie meets the beautiful and sophisticated Kate. The coincidences surrounding Kate's adopted child are hard to ignore, pushing Sadie into a world she wills herself to believe is real.

As the truth unravels, so do the lives of three women, as they learn that secrets run as deep as bloodlines in the South and as thick as the roots of a black walnut tree.

WHEN WALNUTS BLOOM is a sweeping family saga rich in faith, sisterhood, and the South's sweet charm.

Get to Know Me

get to know me

I grew up in rural South Carolina, then chose Charleston as my home for over 40 years. As a children's portrait artist for most of that time, I am honored that my work still graces the walls of homes from the Lowcountry to Southern California.

Later in life, I began a personal journey that took me deep within some of the South’s most beautiful landscapes, inspiring a series of essays you'll find here in my Essay Collection. They document my adventures and offer encouragement for other women to find beauty within and outside of themselves.

But most importantly, it propelled me to follow my passion for writing and my debut novel is only the beginning.

I am now making my home near the Tennessee River Valley and the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. I am a mother to Sarah and Will and a life partner to Keith.
